Complete your Alaska electrical continuing education (CEU) online. Our courses are state-approved for Electrical Administrators (8 hours NEC) and Journeyman Electricians (16 hours, incl. 8 hrs NEC). Electrical License Renewal Deadline

Electrical Administrators: Licenses expire on odd years Dec. 31, every 2 years.
Journeyman Electricians: Every two years on the date issued.

Electrical Continuing Education Requirements

Electrical Administrators: 8 hours on the current National Electrical Code® or their later revisions. *NOTE* Only Course 19308 from below can be used for the 8 hour electrical administrator renewal requirement.

Journeyman Electricians: 16 hours, and 8 hours must be comprehensive NEC® Code or NEC® Code Updates and the remaining 8 hours may be Industry Related.

Yes. The courses on this page are all Alaska-approved. PELLCO emails you a certificate of completion when you finish.

  • Journeyman (Certificate of Fitness): 16 hours every two years; at least 8 hours must cover the current NEC (the other 8 may be “industry-related”).
  • Electrical Administrator: 8 hours every two years on the applicable code(s) for your license category.
  • Journeyman: A minimum of 8 hours must be on NEC changes/updates; up to 8 hours can be industry-related (e.g., grounding/bonding, PV, NFPA 70E) if approved.
  • Administrator: 8 hours must cover the NEC for inside comms, unlimited commercial wiring, controls, residential; NESC is required for outside comms and unlimited linework categories.

Yes—Alaska accepts formal correspondence or individual study programs approved by the state (this includes approved online/self-paced courses).

  • Electrical Administrator: Licenses expire December 31 of odd-numbered years (biennial).
  • Journeyman (Certificate of Fitness): Certificates are valid for two years; renew on your two-year cycle (you may renew up to 90 days before expiration).
  • Journeyman: Course dates must be within 24 months of your renewal application.
  • Administrator: CE must be completed during your concluding licensing period (the current 2-year cycle).
  • Journeyman: Email Mechanical Inspection to renew and attach your CEU certificates with your application.
  • Administrator: Complete approved courses and retain your documentation; CBPL maintains an approved-course list and may require documentation at renewal or audit.
